Adoptive Parent Services

  • Consult on adoption process.
  • Complete S.A.F.E.  homestudies required for domestic and international adoptions for both relative and non-relative adoption.
  • Review child proposals.
  • Support and counsel during post placement period.
  • Complete post placement reports for domestic and international adoption.
  • Refer to agencies and licensees for domestic and international adoption.
  • Liaise with adoption agency, licensee, and government.
  • Refer to community and professional support services as needed.

Birth Parent Services for Domestic Adoptions* 

  • Counsel birth parents and birth family members prior to placement.
  • Assist birth parents with preparation of social and medical histories.
  • Present adoptive family profiles to birth parents.
  • Accompany birth parents to meet adoptive family.
  • Facilitate entrustment ceremony.
  • Counsel birth parents during the post placement period.
  • Liaise with community support services following post placement period

  1. The Ontario Ministry requires each household member to be interviewed and documented as a part of the homestudy.  Applicants who have children, parents or others who are currently reside with the applicants will have an additional $150 fee charged per household member.  The homestudy base fee includes preparation for either a domestic application or an international application.  Should you wish to have your homestudy report include preparation for both a domestic and international application, an additional $150 fee will be added.  Most homestudies require 4 or sometimes 5 sessions.  Each session is typically 2 to 3 hours in length.  However, some family situations require additional sessions.  Should your homestudy require additional sessions, there will be a $150 charge per each additional hour incurred beyond the 5th session.

  4. Adoption expenses are tax deductible up to a maximum (click here for further information). 
  5. As of September 26, 2012, counselling services provided by a Registered Social Worker (R.S.W.) can be claimed as a medical expense tax deduction when you file your income tax return (click here for further information).  
  6. The Adoption Source services are provided by a Registered Social Worker (R.S.W.) which may be covered by some private health insurance plans (click here for details).  Our RSW# is 800263.
